    • The CAPS Program is under USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) - Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ). The CAPS Program supports PPQ’s mission by conducting exotic plant pest surveys through a national network of cooperators and stakeholders to protect American agriculture and natural resources.

  • Purdue Experts Encourage ‘Citizen Scientists’ to Report Invasive Species

    • A major tool in the fight against invasive species is the Report INvasive website, hosted by Purdue College of Agriculture and the Indiana Invasive Species Council. The website includes several ways that people can report invasive species, including a smartphone app from the Great Lakes Early Detection Network. “There are not that many specialists and experts covering the state,” Sadof said. “When there are concerned citizens reporting, however, we have many more eyes and a better chance of detecting and eradicating a harmful species early.”

  • Watch for Garlic Mustard Aphids

    • A European aphid that is only known to eat invasive garlic mustard has recently been found in the Midwest. If you see garlic mustard with curled leaves or aphids, help researchers studying this insect by sending in a report. Because the aphids may help control invasive garlic mustard plants, they are working with citizen scientists to map their distribution.
