Following the discovery
an Asian carp in Lake Calumet six miles away from Lake Michigan,
U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) wrote to President Obama asking him to appoint
a Federal Coordinated Response Commander for Asian Carp. The letter was sent
on Jun 25 and signed by 10 senators whose states border the Great Lakes.

Nevada Senator Harry Reid introduced the Invasive Species Emergency Response
Fund Act, legislation designed to protect Nevada and other states in the American
West from invasive species. This bill, previously known as the 100th Meridian
Invasive Species State Revolving Fund, addresses the issue of invasive species
based on need, starting with western states as the models.
